Mike Fahn grew up in Huntington, Long Island, and started playing slide trombone in middle school. Mike also plays the valve trombone and baritone horn. When he was 16 years old, his family moved to Los Angeles and he quickly became known as a great jazz improviser. Mike won the Shelley Manne New Talent award, given for outstanding soloist, and went on to play with Bob Cooper, Pete Christlieb, Maynard Ferguson, Conte Candoli, and many L.A. greats. Also in L.A., Mike played/recorded with Peter Erskine, John Patitucci, Tom Kubis, Dick Berk, Jerry Lewis orchestra tour, and Kim Richmond Big Band (Japan tour). He released his first CD as a leader, also with Patitucci, titled
“Steppin Out.” Since moving back to New York in 1993, Mike has performed and recorded with Michael Brecker, the Toshiko Akiyoshi big band, Andrew Hill Big Band, Tom Harrell Big Band, Kenny Wheeler, and others. Broadway and tour credits include Jerry Lewis, Leslie Uggams, Ben Vereen, Elaine Stritch, The Color Purple, Hairspray, and Annie. Mike has put out three of his own CD’s.
