Step into the heart of Kyoto for an unforgettable week where the spirit of jazz intertwines with Japan’s rich cultural heritage. Kyoto Jazz Immersion 2026 is a thoughtfully curated experience designed for musicians and jazz enthusiasts eager to deepen their craft while exploring one of the world’s most historic and artistic cities.
This unique program is organized by
Marco Chelo, New York Jazz Workshop Co-founder and experienced travel agent, whose passion for travel and dedication to creating cross-cultural musical experiences have inspired this intensive. Joining Marco are two of the most respected jazz educators and artists from the New York Jazz Workshop faculty:
Bassist Dave Ambrosio and NYJW Co-founder
Marc Mommaas. Together, they bring a wealth of experience and expertise to guide participants through a transformative musical and cultural experience, enhanced by collaborations with talented local artists.
Throughout the program, you’ll engage in masterclasses and ensemble sessions with world-class jazz musicians. Last fall, we had the honor of performing at the Otsu Jazz Festival. The intensive will culminate in a final concert featuring a special Japanese guest artist, venue to be announced. Beyond the music, we’ll have the opportunity to explore Kyoto’s rich culture; from breathtaking landscapes, historic temples, artisan markets, and exquisite Japanese cuisine.
