Jazz/Classical Ensemble Class for Kids 12 to 16

Get Creative with Jazz, Classical Music, and Improvisation! The repertoire in this workshop, led by flutist/educator Kana Miyamoto is a combination of classical scores and jazz arrangements which will introduce participants to the world of improvisation.

Who Is It For:

-6th to 12th grade student
-For all instruments
-Beginner to intermediate level musicians who can play more than one or two major scales on their instruments
-Need to be able to have basic proficiency in reading music
-Classical players as well as improvisers are welcome

Dates: Sundays March 27, April 10, May 1, May 22
Time: 1 – 2:30pm

Rate: $45 for each session

 

About Kana:

She started playing the flute at the age of 13. In 2002, the Agency for Cultural Affairs in Japan awarded Kana an, “Up-and-Coming Artist Overseas Training System” grant, which allowed her to study abroad in the U.S. She was an exchange student for a year and graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy three years after. Kana returned to Japan to pursue and graduated with a degree in Music at Tokyo College of Music in 2011. She started her career while she was in college as a soloist, sideman, recording for TVCM music and performing for music festivals such as Radio-I 20th anniversary in Nagoya, Toride Jazz Festival 2011 and 2012 in Kanto. Also by her deep interest in jazz music, Kana moved to New York in 2014 to pursue a performance degree from the New School’s Program for Jazz and Contemporary Music. She joined Hudson Jazz workshop in 2015 as a scholarship student .She released her 1st album ‘Spring Doze’ in 2017 which led to her first Japan tour in 2018.
