Outreach Music Programs

The New York Jazz Workshop Outreach music programs work to bring the benefits of jazz music into the global community. Music inspires creativity, strengthens cognitive learning and so much more. We believe it’s our responsibility to enliven a passion for jazz in the lives of children, as well as corporations that are looking to achieve a deeper level of connection among their staff.

Jazz music has been embraced throughout the world as a truly American artform and has been declared as a “national treasure” by the U.S. Congress (1987).
New York Jazz Workshop is dedicated to fostering a greater appreciation, awareness and understanding of this rich, beautiful and ever-evolving American art form. Jazz has been loved all over the globe for its dynamic, expressive and unifying qualities and it connects with all cultures and all layers of society.

Through innovative and inspiring programs New York Jazz Workshop encourage students to connect with their own personal sound by emphasizing the importance to recognize and trust their own instincts. This awareness is paired with deepening a sense of collective connection on the bandstand through interactive communication and collaboration.

Freedom of expression is at the center of Jazz, without restrictions but with a clear understanding of the language and a strong connection to the social cultural environment that surrounds us. This is what makes Jazz improvisation such a powerful and positive platform for students. They learn about themselves and the culture that they live in and connect with.

New York Jazz Workshop in the Classroom

Budget cuts have forced many public schools to reduce or eliminate music programs, which has made private programs very popular in recent years. Parent Teacher associations have been outsourcing music classes to private teachers and various organizations as a way to offset those cuts. And parents are looking outside of the school system for ways to provide enrichment programs for their children. Members of The New York Jazz Workshop have been developing new programs with various organizations, including Jazz at Lincoln Center and the Midori and Friends Foundation. These programs use music to enhance cognitive, emotional and motor capacities, which are the driving forces behind the learning process. The New York Jazz Workshop is dedicated to positively influencing the lives of children by bringing a high quality jazz curriculum to schools to inspire and educate young people.
