Meet Eli Hershiser, Youth Programs Coordinator
Originally from Omaha, NE, I moved to NYC in 2013 to attend the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, where I studied Jazz Saxophone and Composition. I had two excellent educators who encouraged my passion for musical growth. As I entered The New School, I met several more mentors who helped me realize my place not only as a performer, but as an educator. I strongly believe that music and arts education are incredibly valuable for developing necessary and applicable professional skills in all aspects of life.
The overall goals of the NYJW Teens Programs are to learn and grow as musicians, improvisers, problem-solvers, and critical thinkers. Through group style ensembles, students will have the opportunity to explore multiple musical genres through improvisation, songwriting and composition. Questions regarding the music and beyond will be explored as students work towards a final performance tailored to their class experience. My goal as the Program Coordinator is to ensure that each student has the opportunity to express and develop their musical voice, along with learning how to manage their musical goals.
