Noam Avnon
Piano
Teaching Topics and Philosophy
My teaching style draws from the classical training I’ve received and my experience as a working jazz pianist. I strongly believe in teaching music theory, harmony and ear training from the very beginning, and in guiding each student along their own path of discovering how music works, and how it can work for them to achieve their artistic goals. Foregoing the typical ‘jazz school’ approach, students learn the mechanics of music and the piano through the lens of both the classical piano tradition and the aural tradition of Black American music that evolved in the 20th century, primarily here in New York City.
