GLOBAL Intensives at NYJW
Travel the world with NYJW! We are proud to call New York City, one of the great jazz capitals of the world our home base. Over the years, we are delighted to have expanded our educational programming in three different continents, partnering with local guides, artists, educators along the way. These retreats are not your typical all-inclusive trip. In addition to creating a space to develop your musicianship, each retreat offers unique opportunities to engage with local music scenes, nightlife, excursions to historic sites, local cuisines, and meet new friends and musicians from around the world.

“This was my first trip to Brazil and I’m so glad I came with NY jazz workshop. I play guitar but really never played jazz and by the end I was able to play a bossa nova song with a band in front of a local audience… a really wonderful experience especially if you are shy about playing. Not to mention all the sightseeing and great music performances and cultural immersion. This is a fantastic group and Marco is a great tour leader. I’ve met some wonderful people both in the group and local people who they have connections with. I highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting to learn about Brazilian music or just having a desire to see Brazil and have an authentic and fun experience! Thanks so much!”
“Studying jazz music with world class artists under the Tuscan sky is a life-changing experience. From the incredible vistas to the amazing food and wine, every detail of this workshop is thoughtfully prepared. After a week of instruction, balanced by visits to historic sites, shopping and dinner in one of the nearby cities and the camaraderie of lounging by the pool or walking in the vineyard, the concert on Friday brings together musicianship and friendship in a truly magical night.”
“Just came back from NY Jazz Intensive workshop for vocalists in Italy (in beautiful Tusany). I was blown away by how much I learnt in just 5 days and the fun we had! We had an amazing vocal teacher, Michelle Walker. She explained jazz theory, how to approach learning (new) songs, creativity and improvisation, how to lead a band – in a way that we could apply straight away to the songs we were working on. Very practical and inspirational at the same time.
We played together with musicians in the band (some participants, some faculty as well that worked with the instrumentalists the same week). So much fun!! And it was also a really nice social experience, getting to know new people, talking about music and life, doing a pasta workshop and wine tasting, relaxing at the swimming pool, practicing together. And ending with a nice concert in the local town – going out with a bang!”
