Join Saxophonist Eli Hershiser for a 2-hour jazz workshop deep-diving into the Great American Songbook. This course is open to all levels and recommended for students with some jazz ensemble experience.
Students will have the opportunity to study and perform songs from the most impactful American composers including George and Ira Gerswhin, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, Richard Rodgers, Irving Berlin and more! Eli’s teaching will focus on dissecting these fantastic melodies and harmonies, with close attention to detail including learning verses and endings. There will be an emphasis on the importance of how these tunes shaped and pushed the music forward as a vehicle for Bebop.
Throughout this course, students will learn how to improvise over some of the most important jazz forms and structures, as well as identify the specific composition techniques that made each of the above composers stand out to create timeless music
All levels welcome
