NEW Bi-weekly Vocal Workshop has started!

Last night I started a bi weekly workshop for the New York Jazz Workshop(NYJW)! The NYJW has been working on this project for sometime and we’re all excited to get it up and running.

We’ve started with four interested and curious students – with great voices to boot. The aim is to grow the workshop and have it continue though out the season. And I aim to get the students singing as much as possible using jazz as a platform or jumping off point for them to figure out their own voices and direction.

First up, we got to know each other, exchanging the love of the music with each other. Then we warmed up and improvised on the blues in C Major. We ended the night getting into the music the students brought in. Very traditional repertoire choices to start YET all had unexpected twists in the interpretations. A great start!
