Vocal Improvisation by ear
This past Thursday Jazz Vocal Workshop was one of the best ever. A few sessions ago, I attempted improvised vocal harmony to the class as a way of having the students feel the and sense the notes they were singing so they can trust themselves, and as a way for them to experience harmony in a natural way. Plus how cool to come up with an idea of the vocalists singing together, yet having freedom to express their own voices. It was a great beginning in that session, the students had a ball! This past session onThursday, with a group size of 6, it was perfect to try again. The vocalists were wonderful and totally went for it with their voices – even when I didn’t play piano. I’m so proud of them and this idea and we’ll keep building on it.
