Small Group Semi Private Four-Week Masterclass Intensives
“An exciting new course model and option is now available to NYJW students”.

Faculty member Richard Boukas will offer special Four-Week Masterclass Intensives (MI) to groups ranging from two to a maximum of four students.

The course meets for one hour per week for four consecutive weeks, and there is the option to continue study for another four weeks. For some students, this is a much more feasible time window than the ten-week trimester courses Richard teaches in Ear Training and Transcription. These custom-designed course intensives are available in a wide variety of topics (see below) which tap into his decades of university academic and artistic expertise.

Here are the main advantages of Richard’s Masterclass Intensives:

• greater individual attention compared to larger classes
• wide diversity of course topics not offered in most schools
• hourly cost significantly less than private lesson rates
• compact 4-week time frame to accommodate busy schedules
• option to continue study in the same or different topic(s) for another four weeks

To maximize the experience, NYJW encourages students to form their own small group with musicians who share the same topic(s) of interest and are compatible in level depending upon the skills and materials to be covered. When requested, NYJW can assist finding appropriate students to form a small group. Otherwise, two or three students who form their group can request not to have additional students registered.

The topics of interest can be based on a common instrument (ex. guitar), style (Jazz, Brazilian), core skill (improvisation, composition, sight reading) or some combination of these three common aspects, For example, two guitarists who want to study Brazilian guitar composition. Here is a concise list of Masterclass Topics. Richard is also very open to consider additional student topics not on this list.

Tuition
As mentioned above, a primary advantage to the Masterclass Intensive is that students will receive considerably more individual attention similar to a private session, but with significant savings from Richard’s private lesson rate ($100 plus $16 an hour room rental costs ), Since the MI is considered a course, room rentals are already incorporated into the tuition cost. Here are the three different group scenarios and tuition rates for FOUR sessions spread over four weeks:
• Two students: $350 each (savings $114)
• Three students: $290 each (savings $174)
• Four students: $250 each (savings $214)

Since Richard is developing customized materials to teach a specific group of students, this requires considerable preparation time prior to the first class. Therefore, there is no refund for course tuition once it is paid, or rescheduling of the MI unless mutually agreed to by Richard and NYJW.
