Teaching Topics and Philosophy

In my lessons, we will explore a range of styles, from swing to bebop and beyond. You will
learn how to improvise, comp, transcribe, and compose, all from a practical perspective. I’ll
guide you in developing your own chord melodies, as well as providing ear training
exercises to help you play what you hear. Additionally, we will delve into composition
techniques and explore all aspects of rhythm.
Through a combination of structure and discipline, we will work towards achieving the
freedom necessary to improvise from intuition—free from technical barriers, and most
importantly, rooted in active listening.
Each lesson is tailored to your individual level and specific needs. At the core of my
approach is a comprehensive study of harmony and improvisation, employing over 50
methods to help you gain freedom in your playing.
While the material is broad, from the very first class, you will have a clear and structured
practice routine—what I believe to be the most effective way to improve your playing.
