Teaching Topics and Philosophy
In my lessons, we explore a wide range of styles—from swing to bebop and beyond—while learning to improvise, comp, transcribe, and compose through a practical, hands-on approach. I’ll guide you in developing your own chord melodies and provide ear-training exercises designed to help you play what you hear. We also dive into composition techniques and examine every aspect of rhythm. Through a balance of structure and discipline, we work toward developing the freedom to improvise intuitively, free from technical barriers and grounded in active listening. Each lesson is tailored to your level and goals, supported by a comprehensive study of harmony and improvisation that draws on more than 50 methods to help you gain musical freedom. Although the material is broad, from the very first class you’ll receive a clear and structured practice routine—what I believe is the most effective path to improving your playing.
