- Bebop workshop January 3rd 2012
Bebop workshop January 3rd 2012
In this first class of 2012 we focused on a nice arrangement of Night in Tunisia by Dizzy Gillespie and rehearse the horn backgrounds under the guitar and piano solos, to be sure that everything sounds good and thigh for our upcoming gig at Smalls.
We also spent some time on how to play a solo break, that in the case of this tune is 4 bars long and constitutes a real challenge for a soloist! We are also focusing on how to end a tune, especially a ballad, and how the soloist can communicate his intentions to the rhythm section on the fly, without a pre determined arrangement. We tried different solutions on our favorite ballad, You Don’t Know What Love Is.
