Monks Dream

Thelonious Monk – 1952

‘Monks Dream’ is another Monk twist on the II – V – I group (Bars 2 and 3) The typical II (Cm7) chord is replaced with its major seventh equivalent (CM7). Further, he features the  seventh degree right in the melody.
‘The ‘B’ section is unusual with its growling bass and parallel 6ths moving with the melody.
