‘The Maze’ is from Herbie Hancock’s debut recording “Takin’ Off”. Its a good example of how effective Pedal Points can be.

The Maze

The Britannica definition of ‘Pedal Point’ is “a tone sustained through several changes of harmony that may be consonant or dissonant with it…”. When improvising over these changes focus on how you can create sections of tension and release.
