About Michelle

Michelle Walker is a dynamic jazz vocalist known for her warm, whiskey-toned voice and genre-defying interpretations of jazz standards and contemporary tunes. A seasoned performer with four acclaimed albums—her latest released on Encore Merci / Warner Music Group—she has headlined international festivals, including the JAVA Jazz Festival, and toured extensively across Europe and Asia. A charismatic educator as well as a performer, Michelle brings years of global experience leading masterclasses in voice development, improvisation, and rhythmic flexibility. The Washington Post describes her as having a “soul-comforting allure,” while Jazz.RU praises her ability to leave “listeners hanging on the edge of their seats with every note.”

• Jazz Vocal Foundations – Phrasing, rhythm, swing feel, and melodic interpretation
• Intro to Scat Singing – Call and response, improvisation exercises, and syllable fluency
• Working with a Live Band – Learn how to count in, cue musicians, and trade phrases
• Personalizing the Standard – Techniques to interpret lyrics and make creative vocal choices
• Performance Skills – Stage presence, vocal delivery, and real-time interaction

Workshop Schedule

Hour 1: Vocal warm-ups, rhythm drills, and listening exercises
Hour 2: Scat singing basics and phrase development
Hour 3: Live band interaction – trading 4s, improvisation games
Hour 4: Open mic–style performance + instructor feedback

Each participant will have the opportunity to perform with the band.
