The New York Jazz Workshop is proud to present The “
Brazilian Ensemble” Class. This workshop will be hosted by a fantastic teacher,
Vanderlei Pereira, and meets every Thursday at 7pm. In this workshop, we will explore a wide variety of Brazilian styles, such as Bossa Nova, Samba,
Partido Alto, Choro, Baião, Xote, Frevo, Maracatu, and
Ijexá. Musicians will have a chance to develop their skills on playing these Brazilian styles, accompanying, improvising, and phrasing using the appropriate patterns, accents and articulations within each style. The repertoire will include pieces by composers such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Baden Powell, Hermeto Pascoal, Egberto Gismonti, Pixinguinha, Dominguinhos, Johnny Alf and other Brazilian master composers. This workshop is at an intermediate/advanced level but can accommodate many musicians with varying backgrounds.
