About:
The New York Jazz Workshop is excited to announce its new New York Jazz Workshop Big Band under the direction of Ron Horton. As an arranger, Ron has worked with such jazz artists as Andrew Hill, groups such as the Jazz Composers Collective and co-leads a tentet with drummer Tim Horner. He will expose the players in this ensemble to some of the many different styles that big bands have covered over many decades, from the earlier style of Basie and Ellington, through the freer styles of more recent times. In this setting, players will learn to work on the finer points of ensemble playing such as phrasing, dynamics, sight reading, soloing with a big band, section playing, etc. Students will hone their skills and have a good, swinging time while they’re doing it!
How to Join: Spots ARE available
(Even if the spot is taken let us know that you are interested, we are looking for subs and we
can put you on the waiting-list.) Click here to register.
Come to one of our sessions and sign up for an audit. An audit is non-committal, it costs $15 for a session and it gives you a chance to get a feel for the workshop, plus it gives the teacher a chance to asses your level. This workshop is for Intermediate to Advanced Players. To ensure the ensemble will always have a full band, we are accepting principle and sub positions for each instrument. Intermediate to Advanced level.
