To celebrate its new location at the esteemed Michiko Studios at 149 W 46th St. within mere steps of Times Square, the New York Jazz Workshop School of Music (NYJW) will be hosting an open house on March 2nd from 3 pm to 5pm for everyone and anyone who’s curious about joining a thriving, passionate community of musicians in the world capital of Jazz!
Expertly lead by renowned jazz educators and performers, the New York Jazz Workshop School of Music helps musicians of varying skill levels gain unmatched jazz knowledge and develop professional techniques through workshops, performances, summer intensive programs, and more.
Weekly workshops offered include:
Beginner to Intermediate Level
- Jazz Improvisation and Theory (Tuesdays, 7-9pm) with Saxophonist and NYJW co-founder Marc Mommaas.
- Blues to Jazz Standards (Fridays, 7:30-9:30pm) with one of the country’s foremost woodwind artists, Tim Price.
- Rhythmic Foundations (Thursdays, 7-9pm) with renown New York jazz guitarist Miles Okazaki.
- Let’s Sing (Thursdays, 7-8pm) with jazz vocalist Olivia Foschi.

Intermediate Level
- Afro-Latin Improv (To be determined) with Grammy winner Doug Beavers.
- Bebop (Mondays, 8:30-10:30pm) – with double bass musician and composer, Andrea Veneziani.
- Jazz Standards (Saturdays, 2-4 and 4-6pm) with jazz guitarist Kenny Wessel.
- Funk Fusion (Wednesdays, 8:30-10:30pm) with double bass musician and composer Andrea Veneziani.

- Polyrhythm and Mixed Meter (Tuesdays, 9-11pm) with saxophonist and NYJW cofounder Marc Mommaas.
- From Bebop to Hard-Bop (Mondays, 6:15 – 8:15pm) with Mark Sherman, winner of “Rising Star Vibes” Downbeat Magazine Critics Poll 2007-2010.
- Modern Jazz Ensemble (Wednesdays, 6-8pm) with double bass musician and composer Andrea Veneziani.
